Sunday - May 8. 2005 Mothers Day
It was a normal Mothers Day for us. The whole family came over and we had our famous burritos! Mom Sara brought me a gift and the card said, “My first memories of being a mother were Puppet shows and Hello Kitty”. The gift was a cute little purple and black Hello Kitty Purse. Little did we all know, that purse would be my first Mothers Day Gift. FYI early 1980’s… I loved Hello Kitty. I would perform puppet shows for my Dad and Mom Sara with 2 puppets, Flowerbunda & Spinach.
I can't wait to see those puppets on the hands of my children.
Tuesday – May 10th
I was at work today and all the sudden it hit me! I said to myself… “Look in your date book, because your boobs have been sore for way over a week!” Well, as soon as I counted 35 days… Instant Smile. When I talked to Glenn, (I don't believe I waited 5 seconds to call him, but I may have.) I suggested we go shopping to Sav-On after work to buy a Pregnancy Test. I have no idea what happened the rest of the day at work. I am so excited!!! I just know I am, our 1st baby due in January. We bought a 3 pack test after work. I waited till the next morning to take it.
Wednesday – May 11th
5 weeks
It was early about 5am, I was getting up to get ready for work. I took the pregnancy test and IMMEDIATELY scored FLYING "PINK" COLORS! But, I decided to crawled back in bed. I told Glenn it would take 15 minutes. I asked him to “Check My Test Score” and he was too nervous at first. But he did. Wow, what a morning!!!
I called the Doctor later that day to make my appointment. I naively thought we would be at the office the very next day. But Nicole said, “If you tested positive, those thing are rarely wrong.” I was kind of bummed to get the date of June 9th, too far away for me, for my first appointment. It was at 9 weeks so we could possibly hear the baby's heart beat.
Sometime Within this Week… Telling Our Parents
Glenn and I went to a bookstore today and bought 2 books. "What to Expect When You’re Expecting" and "The Girlfriends Guide to Pregnancy”. The Girlfriends Guide was pretty funny and informative. Yes, I read the entire book, this week.
We bought a ball of yarn and took it to my Mom’s and told her we had a New Project for her to work on. She started crying when she opened the bag.
We went to Shrimp and Chip dinner at Glenn’s parents’ house. Mom always says…
“Anyone want more shrimp?”
Glenn said, “Ill have more shrimp, Shawna’s Pregnant”
I think they all almost choked, and then they cried.
I called Mom Sara and she had to work all weekend!!! We wanted to tell her in person too but we could not wait another day. So I told her she was going to be a Grandma. She screamed and began to tell everyone at work. She cried.
I was talking to Becky one of my Bestest Girlfriends. I was biting my lip because I wanted to wait to see her in person to share my news. Well, somehow we began discussing the pregnancy surrounding her at work…
Then she told me, “I’m Pregnant Too!”
“When did you find out?”
“Tuesday”
“When are you due?”
“Mid-January?”
“SHUT-UP, ME TOO!!!!”
How exciting it was for us both! Our only concern was, We hope “we don’t deliver on the same day.” We bought the pregnancy test on the same day, I just waited to take it. Wild!
Friday – May 20th
6 weeks
We were all supposed to bring a suggestion for the next book. So I hid my fake suggestion, "The Girlfriends Guide to Pregnancy", inside the dust jacket of another book. I waited and made my reveal at the optimum time. Yeah!!! Then we share Becky’s wonderful Baby news.
May 25th – May 29th

Our vacation to Seattle. We were able to upgrade to 1st class. Cool! We had a really nice time visiting my cousin and his family. They actually decorated their guest bedroom so we would feel comfortable and romantic. They wanted us to make a Seattle baby. They were so excited when we told them, "we are already pregnant". The weather was very nice to us. They had a hail storm the day before we arrived, light rain the day we left and sunny in the middle. The only bad part was I started to feel nauseous in the middle of the visit. At first, I thought I was car sick, but it continued. On the plane ride home was holding onto a barf bag and I brought it home with me too.
find out about... our 1st doctors appointment... my 1st cramps... my morning sickness and our 1st ultrasound.
